*North Carolina is one of the very few states that requires nonprofit entities to pay sales tax on purchases then request refunds after the fact.
*We have developed a system to capture the taxable purchases, calculate or validate the sales taxes paid, then prepare the forms to request refunds of the tax.
*After catching up the refunds for the past 3 years, we will create systems for your staff to capture the sales taxes and request refunds moving forward.
*Your organization can use these refunds to reinvest in your community and mission.
*During a FREE Discovery Call, Allyson will determine whether the sales tax refund process is a good fit for the organization based on historical accounting records
*If it appears to be a good fit, we will sign an engagement letter to work together on the sales tax refunds
*Once the engagement letter is signed, a deposit of 50% of the anticipated fees for the consulting will be collected up front
*Allyson or her staff will work with the organization to gather the necessary documentation to prepare the required sales tax refund requests
*The sales tax refund requests will be completed by our staff and returned to the organization for review, signature and mailing to the NC Department of Revenue
*Average time to receive refunds after mailing to the NCDOR is about 4 weeks
*After the receipt of the sales tax refunds, the balance of the consulting fees will be due to Allyson H. Sawtelle, CPA, P.A.
*We will then setup the organization's accounting system to capture the sales taxes by county as they are paid. We will also train the organization's staff to complete the sales tax refund requests semiannually.

*Historically, the consulting fees for gathering the data and preparing the sales tax refund claims, then setting up the accounting system and training the staff to claim the refunds moving forward is 15% - 25% of the refund amount (based on hourly billing rates).
*This results in an estimated 75%-85% ROI to the organization!
*Staff members will work with the organization to gather the data for preparing the sales tax refund requests.
*Allyson will review the final sales tax refund requests and compare them to the supporting data before sending them to the organization for final review, signature and submission to the NCDOR.
